Fantastic breakfast in the "north woods" of Arizona.

I love The Toasted Owl Café. We found this gem while exploring woodsy northern Arizona. We definitely plan to come back on our next visit to Flagstaff.
The downtown location (across the street from Flag Bike Revolution) is a fairly large, very casual place, and has every little owl doodad you can imagine hanging on the walls. There are owl figurines, pictures, clocks, mugs and more. Don’t worry – the sign says it’s all for sale! The mis-matched vintage furniture and diverse collection of hanging light fixtures adds to the charm.
We came for breakfast (served all day) and opted to sit on the sunny patio. The patio is very large, with lots of tables, and umbrellas for some shade. There is plenty of space, and several people brought their dogs.
The menu is fantastic. They have the traditional breakfast fare – eggs and bacon, pancakes, and omelets. They boast homemade cinnamon rolls, a large vegan menu, and gluten free offerings. For lunch there are soups, salads, hot and cold sandwiches, and burgers.
I ordered the Owlapeno Scramble and added the meatless chorizo and the homemade guacamole. It came with potatoes, salsa verde, and a homemade tortilla that was large enough to rip into smaller pieces or make one giant breakfast burrito. There was so much food, I had leftovers for my favorite meal, Second Breakfast! I added a mimosa (vacation!) and a bottomless double brewed coffee.
My husband had the Big Fat French Toast, a cinnamon-y French toast, quite yummy. It also came with a side choice of meat or potatoes. As the name says, it was very large and thick. You might have to bring some home.
The only downside was that the service was a little slow. However, it was crowded, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Since we were on vacation, I’m letting that go.
I’d like to note that this wasn't our first choice for breakfast in Flagstaff. We had planned to eat at The Galaxy where we supped the day before. We were drawn there because of the 1950s diner theme and the shakes and malts. When you read the reviews from the past few years about the shake machine being broken, assume it still will be broken when you arrive. Then walk out and go to The Toasted Owl.
